Why does a prickly pear cactus

turn purple?

Purple prickly pear cactus

The less water it gets, the more purple it becomes… (usually during the summer here in Arizona).

We are having warmer than usual days obviously.

One word of advice. If you find a prickly pair cactus paddle at the grocery store and are tempted to try cooking it, beware ha!

One last day of repairs.

Since the motorhome will be at Mesa RV one more day, we decide to visit the amazing Desert Botanical Garden. You can walk the trails and discover mother nature’s art as well as unique sculptures by renowned artists.

Or…

You can spend the day on one of 185 golf courses in the Phoenix area,

or visit Taliesin West,  the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home and school in the desert. It is a National Historic Landmark and a School of architecture. We highly recommend a guided tour.   http://franklloydwright.org/

You can wander the streets of downtown Scottsdale. Always entertaining. As these photos attest, it is always a must when touring with visitors…  (Ron, and Ray and Sue visited in 2016). Great times in downtown Scottsdale.

What to do?

When the motorhome needs repairs and spends the day at the doctor’s office, what do you do…

Well, it turns out not to be a problem.

You can explore the area RV parks to find the next park you will visit and meet fellow RVers. Notice the trailer behind this fellow Canadian’s motorhome? You guessed it! A 62 Nova Restomod is safely stored in it.

But the golf cart Mater stole the show… Can you believe RV sites with their own mail boxes?

You can do what tourists do. Explore the area.  Superstition Mountain in Apache Junction is the start of Apache Trail. We visited the museum IMG_4582

and marvelled at the stamp mill used years ago for the extraction of gold.

Then again, you can visit…a classic car dealer, in this case, Streetside Classics

and see this colourful prowler

And all these beauties!

When you come back to the repair shop, they let you sleep in your motorhome. But better go to bed early. You will be woken up at 5 a.m. by traffic starting to roll…

Quirky at Barrett Jackson

The yearly Barrett Jackson classic car auction is probably the most talked about world wide. This year, over 1 500 unique and valuable automobiles will cross the block, most without reserve.  You can watch the auction on internet, on television most nights, and of course you can choose to attend. It can cost 30$ to 80$ entry fee depending on the day or you can purchase a week pass for 195$. You can even spend time in Craig Jackson’s (Barrett Jackson’s CEO) box,  but it will cost 7 499.00$.

This being said, the event is a unique experience. Of course, there is an abundance of mustangs, cameros, cadillacs, corvettes, etc. However, it is the condition of most cars that amazes.

But then you have the quirky cars 🙂 Always fun and very unusual!
